About Secret Doctor

Not lost and not found

I qualified in medicine in the 1980s and trained as a specialist physician, working in public funded health care my entire career.

I’ve worked at all levels from shop floor to national government and back. Like many in public service, my career has been about hard work and values. Most likely you will have never heard of me-even if you knew my true identity. And you probably don’t care- unless of course I am treating you or your family..

I’ve not searched out controversy or conflict. It found me all the same.

Not once have I shied away from the truth, speaking out in support of the people I committed to serving- patients, people like you and me. By speaking truth to power I have paid the price a few times…

The tales here are about a life lived in the pursuit of better health care from the perspective of a person in the front line. It is also the disturbing documentation of a journey still being travelled, my triumphs and defeats, my joy and pain.

I’ve chosen to tell my story in chapters for all who might be interested. Some detail events of graphic tragedy, misery, comedy and elation. Apologies if it turns your stomach.

I want you to know however that everything written here has actually happened and some of these tales are still playing out.

To protect professional confidences, avoid embarrassment and most importantly litigation, names, dates and places have been altered where necessary.

Poetic licence has been taken liberally.

Any opinions expressed belong to me alone and probably not shared by some of those featured. Whether you agree or not is your choice.

I am still working hard in healthcare, trying to heal and fix what I can, while I can. Enjoy my tales.

“Truth hurts, but if you feel the pain at least you’re still human”.
